Can I use liquid latex for life casting instead of alginate?

Doing an art project where I am going to make prosthetic type pieces to add on my body. I was wondering for the main mold, can I just use several layers of liquid latex instead of alginate? Then cover that with plaster sheets and then make the positive mold from that?
