Tried dying my hair last night but it didn't turn out the colour I wanted?

my hair was a chocolatey shade of brown and last night i tried dying it red with a nice n easy dye and it turned out a really dark brown with a slight tint of red on the top...today ive just bought the casting creme gloss mahogany 550, because im wanting my hair to turn out exactly like cheryl coles...will this work if i put this dye on top of the dye i did yesterday?
